Police arrests Saloni Arora for abetting editor Kalpesh Yagnik to suicide, who had allegedly blackmailed him to reinstate her and pay Rs 5 crore.

Indore police on Saturday arrested absconding Saloni Arora, wanted for allegedly abetting the suicide of a Hindi print newspaper group editor Kalpesh Yagnik. Police were on her lookout for the last two weeks. Senior police officer informed about her arrest from Andheri in Mumbai.

DIG Harinarayanchari Mishra informed that Arora was shifting her base from Mumbai to Punjab, Delhi, Goa and other districts of Maharashtra. After her arrest she was produced before a court and was remanded in police custody.

Police reports say that the resident editor of Dainik Bhaskar group was found on the floor of his office building and died during treatment at the hospital. Days later, the postmortem confirmed that he died due to multiple fractures and not by heart attack. Suspecting suicide, police registered a case filed by Yagnik’s relative and started the investigation.

Yagnik in his suicide note had mentioned of the harassment and extortion made by former colleague Arora, who was fired from her job. Arora used to allegedly blackmail Yagnik to reinstate her and had demanded Rs 5 crore too. Yagnik had complained about this to the Additional Director General of Indore Ajay Kumar Sharma of being blackmailed by Arora a few days ago before committing suicide on July 12.

Based on the complain, police even searched Arora’s flat in Shastri Nagar area in Andheri (West) and found it locked two weeks back. The Indore police have booked Arora under Sections 503 (criminal intimidation), 306 (abatement of suicide) of the IPC, 386 (extortion) and Section 67A of the IT Act for allegedly threatening to circulate sexually explicit images in electronic form.
