After the government introduced new farm bills, farmers from across the nation have been protesting against it. The violent tractor rally led by the farmer protesters caught an international attention and celebs such as Rihanna and Greta Thunberg mentioned about the protest in their respective tweet posts. On Monday i.e Feb 8, PM Narendra Modi addressed Indian farmers at his Rajya Sabha speech. Prime Minister urged the farmers to give a chance to the new farm laws. He also revealed that the MSP is to stay in future. PM also mentioned about the protesting farmers. Here check out the highlights from his today’s speech:
- India is not merely the world’s largest democracy. But is the ‘Mother of Democracy’. Our nation’s temperament is democratic, said PM during his speech today. The eyes of the world are on India. There are expectations from India and there is confidence that India will contribute to the betterment of our planet, he said.
- He stated, “since 2014 we have initiated changes in the agriculture sector that aim at empowering the farmer in India. The crop insurance scheme was changed to make it more farmer friendly. The PM-KISAN scheme was also brought in. We are working for the small farmers”.
- He mentioned that the MSP was there and it will continue to be there in future too. Affordable ration for the poor will continue, however, the Mandis will be modernized
- “We are always open for talks with farmers. I have said this in past and saying it again. We have to convince the agitators. Someone has to do this work. We are open for talks with the agitators — send the old people home,” said PM Modi.
- Taking light upon the recent few protests, PM said, “Today there is a new class of people called andolan jivi…they cant live without doing andolan we need to identify such people. They are there when there are protests by lawyers, students anyone.”
