Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the platform for “Transparent Taxation – Honoring the Honest” on Thursday (August 13, 2020). The platform is aimed at further carrying forward the journey of direct tax reforms. It was launched by the PM via video conferencing at 11 am. The PM said that it aims at strengthening efforts of “reforming and simplifying our tax system”.
The event is witnessed by various Chambers of Commerce, Trade Associations, Chartered Accountants’ associations, and also eminent taxpayers. Along with officers and officials of the Income Tax Department. Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Shrimati Nirmala Sitharaman, and Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur are also present on the occasion.
The PM has launched an honest platform for faceless appeal, faceless assessment, and taxpayers charter. Faceless assessment and taxpayer charter apply from today. The faceless appeal will be applicable from Sept 25th. The platform is aimed at bringing more transparency in official communication through the newly-introduced Document Identification Number (DIN).
The Income Tax Department will use technology to handle scrutiny through the random allocation of cases. The PM Modi said, Faceless assessment will be decided randomly by a computer and will be changed from time to time. This will ensure that the income tax administration and the income taxpayers cannot communicate with each other, bringing any changes of pressuring to zero.
Pm Narendra Modi exhorted taxpayers: “Ask your conscience and pay tax honestly. Every taxpayer should think of contribution. Those who are still not in tax net must ask their conscience and see if they must pay taxes too.”
