Petrol Price Hiked Again, Diesel Stable. Check Latest Rates
Petrol Diesel prices remain at record high; check rates in Mumbai, Delhi and other cities
Fuel prices in the country are once again on a rise. Petrol prices were hiked for the tenth time this month. The price hike is taking a heavy toll on consumers wallets. Petrol got costlier by 30 paise in Delhi. People in the national capital will have to pay Rs 101.54 per litre for petrol. Diesel is retailing at ₹89.87.
Mumbai is reeling under the price hike. A litre of petrol in the island city now costs around ₹107.83 per litre. Diesel has reached ₹97.45 per litre. In Chennai, petrol costs Rs 102.23 per litre and diesel Rs 94.39. Kolkata, people have to shell out Rs 101.74 for a litre of petrol and Rs 93.02 for diesel. In Bengaluru, petrol is dearer by Rs 104.94 per litre and diesel by Rs 95.26 per litre.
Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan has the costliest fuel in the country. Petrol is priced at ₹113.21 a litre and diesel at ₹103.15.
Petrol now costs over ₹100 in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Ladakh, Bihar, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Sikkim, Delhi, West Bengal, Nagaland and some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Diesel, the most used fuel in the country, is above that level in some places in Rajasthan, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh.
The central and state taxes make up for 60% of the retail selling price of petrol and over 54% of diesel. Centre levies ₹32.90 per litre of excise duty on petrol and ₹31.80 a litre on diesel. The difference in prices in states occurs on account of local taxes like VAT or freight charges. Rajasthan levies the highest VAT on petrol and diesel in the country, followed by Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
