Patakhaa movie review: The film captures the sibling bond
Director: Vishal Bharadwaj
Cast: Sanya Malhotra, Radhika Madan, Sunil Grover, Saanand Verma and Vijay Raaz
Rating: 3.5/5
Patakhaa lives up to its name and keeps exploding throughout. It is a story about two sisters (Champa and Genda or Badki and Chuttki) who hate each other from the core of their heart. They have violent fights over silly things and take a lot of joy in making each other jealous. They both have dreams. while Chhutki wants to start her own school, Badki wishes to start her own dairy.
The story progresses as their father (Vijay Raaz) is forced to arrange money, and has no option but to get one of his daughters married to a rich person. His plan becomes futile as both his daughters run away and get married to their respective boyfriends.
Both Sanya Malhotra and Radhika Madan shine in the film. They capture the dialect, the body language and the psyche of a villager with breathtaking accuracy.
The film showcases a message which we will all relate to. We realise that the sisters may tear off each other’s hair but they can’t live without each other. On those lines, there are really less films which capture the sibling equation with authenticity.
The film is based on Charan Singh Pathik’s short story Do Behnein.
