India’s quality is higher than us: Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed

Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed shakes hand with opposition captain Rohit Sharma following India's nine-wicket victory in the Super Four match of the 2018 Asia Cup

Twice in a week did India beat Pakistan and both these victories were utterly comprehensive. While the first match saw Pakistan being wrapped up for a meagre 163, the second game could only lead them to post 237 runs on the board for Rohit Sharma and co to comfortably chase down the total with more than 10 balls to spare.

Reflecting on both these demoralising losses, Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed said that his side isn’t on the same level as India.

“Their skill-level is high, ours is not quite there, but by the final, we will get better. It’s a do-or-die match for us in the next game, we will do well,” said Sarfraz as quoted by the Hindustan Times.

The wicket-keeper batsman further rued the fact that his side dropped opposition captain Rohit Sharma which eventually turned out to be crucial with respect to the game.

“We made it tough for ourselves by dropping those catches. We were 20-25 runs short and if we would have held on to our catches we could have possibly made things interesting.

“The wicket was a bit difficult to play on in the afternoon as the cracks had widened up. It wasn’t easy for a new batsman walking in. Had we got early wickets, this chase would have been certainly difficult. We have been losing a lot of wickets in the early overs and hence it becomes difficult to recover from such situations,” added the Pakistan captain.

Sarfraz further had words of praise for Shikhar Dhawan and Sharma, both of whom recorded centuries to hand India a nine-wicket win.

“The way they batted, all credit to them. Rohit and Dhawan were exceptional. They have shown better skills as compared to us. We need to work a lot on our skill level if at all we want to get into the final,” he said.

Pakistan next faces Bangladesh for a place in the final on Sunday against India.
