Pakistan: Blast in Quetta takes lives of at least 25

Today a blast occurred, in general polls when millions of Pakistanis began voting to choose a new parliament and provincial assemblies in an election which is a cross road race between parties with the hold of former cricketer Imran Khan and jailed ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

Initial reports say at least 28 have been killed which includes three police officers and two children. The attack is said to be the suicide attack outside a polling station.

But local media states another 35 people were injured in the blast.

The whistle blowers say the bomber was trying to enter the polling station. When police tried to stop him he blew himself up.

There are repeated attacks made on the civilians in today’s Pakistan’s election including politicians.

It has been called as Pakistan’s “dirtiest election” due to widespread accusations of pre-poll rigging by the armed forces, with Khan believed to be the beneficiary.

Even though up to 800,000 police and military forces have been stationed at more than 85,000 polling stations across the country, with concerns for security after a string of bloody militant attacks in the final weeks of the campaign that have killed more than 200 people, including three candidates.

So far no individual or group has claimed the attack.
