OnePlus TV: CEO Pete Lau tells, why OnePlus is making a TV product
On September 17, OnePlus surprised millions of people by announcing OnePlus TV. As of now, there is no concrete report that shows, how OnePlus TV will look like, but there is a possibility that it could be completely different from others.
The company OnePlus will now explore its wing in both Smartphones and Television division too. Pete Lau, the CEO of OnePlus, recently spoke to PC Mag on why his company is building a smart TV. “I’ve been thinking for more than a year about entering the smart home industry.”
“It’s not only to make a TV; we want to explore what OnePlus can do in the smart home industry.” Lau was once in charge of Oppo’s DVD player division, and indeed Oppo’s Blu-Ray players are widely considered the best in the world right now. It’s only natural then, that he’d like to take OnePlus into this division, given his experience in the space.
While elaborating the concept of OnePlus television the company says, “The TV doesn’t have to be a TV that plays films or TV shows or series. It can be a home automation hub to control your home’s climate and entertainment system, or the window for you to communicate with the world.”
Unlike other televisions, OnePlus TV would not be a traditional TV. The goal of the company is to use this as a ‘clean, smart, efficient hub’ for your home. For that, OnePlus is seeking suggestions from its fan and even sought names of the device. OnePlus TV is likely to be launched in December this year. Name of OnePlus TV will be revealed before December 17.
Apart from OnePlus smartphones and television, OnePlus has also launched a OnePlus crackable challenge, a puzzle game today with ultimate grand prize $30,000.
