Days before the launch of OnePlus 6T, the company, OnePlus has announced its plan to launch 5G-enabled smartphone in a conference dedicated to 4G and 5G network in Hong Kong. The co-founder of the company, Carl Pei said that OnePlus will be among the first to launch 5G-enabled flagship, likely called OnePlus 7.
The company OnePlus is all set to launch OnePlus 6T in New York next week. Carl Pei has already teased 2019’s OnePlus 7 or OnePlus 7T. After the OnePlus announcement, 5G connectivity is likely to become a mainstream in 2019.
President of Qualcomm — Cristiano Amon has announced at least two 5G flagships — expected to launch in 2019. Carl Pei joined him on stage to say that OnePlus smartphone will appear in 1H 2019. It will rely on the Snapdragon X50 modem with the downsized QTM052 mmWave antenna module, he announced at the conference.
Besides OnePlus, there are several other manufacturers also who stated their commitment to Qualcomm and its path to 5G connectivity. The list of companies that will launch 5G-enabled smartphones with the X50 5G NR modem includes Asus, HMD Global, LG, Motorola, Oppo, Sony, Vivo, and Xiaomi.
The big names are missing from the announcement such as Huawei and Samsung which have their own production lines. Apple is also nowhere to be seen, but that is probably due to the complicated relationship between the San Diego chipset manufacturer and the Cupertino giant.
