Voting is everyone’s right and no matter where one stays, everyone has the right to cast their vote. You won’t believe but a polling booth is set in the dense Gir forest, Gujarat and that too for one voter. He is the only sole voter in that isolated place and every year he casts his vote as a responsible citizen. All thanks to the Election Commission who takes this step to set up only one polling booth. He is an old man and his name is Mahant Bharatdas Darshandas aka Bharatdas Bapu who is a temple priest by profession.
News agency ANI quoted Bharatdas Bapu saying, “Govt spends money for this polling booth for 1 vote. I’ve voted&it’s 100% voter turnout here. For 100% voter turnout everywhere, I request all to go&vote.”
Here’s the tweet by ANI.
He has his own swag while going to cast his vote. He was seen wearing sunglasses, saffron turban, yellow kurta and a pair of white pyjama. Every year he cherishes while casting his vote.
Had the booth been not set up by the Commission, then he would have to travel 20 km to cast his vote. Gir forest is the abode of all wild creatures but Bharatdas is not afraid of all these and he has been living there for more than a decade now.
Bharatdas is an inspiration to many and we salute his loyalty as an Indian citizen.
