Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad said the examinations of Class X and XII conducted by the state board will not be held before May 2021. The reason being prevailing coronavirus situation in the state. Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education conducts exams for the 10th (SSC) and 12th (HSC) in the month of February and March. This year, however, the examinations would be postponed and are not likely before May.
Maharashtra’s Education Minister’s announcement came soon after Gujarat Board and Andhra Board’s decision to postpone the Class 10, 12 Board Exams 2021 to a later date.
Speaking to reporters the Education Minister said, “The current situation of coronavirus is likely to last for a longer period. We have discussed the issue of completion of syllabus and holding of exams. The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education will not be able to conduct the exams of Class X and XII before May.”
Varsha Gaikwad added, “I have also discussed the issue of how much curriculum can be omitted so that teachers can complete the remaining part. We will have to cut at least 25 per cent of the curriculum.”
As reported by sources to Times Now, Guidelines and SOPs and official notice regarding reopening of schools in Maharashtra from November 23 is expected to be released soon. As per the guidelines, released by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health, attendance for students would be strictly voluntary. It would only be with the consent from the parents.
Assam, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh among many other states have already reopened their schools.
