Already in tiff with opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal on possible alliance for Grand Alliance for 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal United has upped an ante with ally Bharatiya Janata Party, by stating that it will go solo in the upcoming Assembly elections in BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
As per to the political pandits, JDU has a nominal presence in these three poll bound states, but the decision to field its own candidates in these states might be a tactic to get BJP agree on reasonable number of seats in Bihar. The reason might being that BJP is an ally in the JDU government is Bihar, after RJD separated from in July last year, and the possibility in rolling back Congress coalition is not a suitable idea for Nitish.

Along with three BJP-ruled states, JDU will also field its candidates from Mizoram this time. According to JD(U) general secretary KC Tyagi, party is trying to ‘revisit its roots’ where socialist leader like Ram Manohar Lohia had strong presence. Claiming that Mulayam Singh Yadav and Lalu Prasad yadav deviated from the socialist agenda, but JDU is continuing it, Tyagi said, “After Mulayam Singh Yadav and Lalu Prasad deviated from the socialist agenda, Nitish Kumar has decided to revisit places that used to be the socialist strongholds.”
