After the horrifying Texas shooting where a man armed with an assault rifle opened fire at a packed shopping area in El Paso, in the US, killing at least 20 people and wounding 26 others. There has been a second mass shooting in the US in the last 24 hours. This was in Ohio that left 9 dead, 16 injured the suspected shooter is also deceased.
A gunman has opened fire outside a bar in downtown Dayton, Ohio. The gunman was shot dead by police and there was no immediate word on a possible motive. The incident took place just after 1 a.m. on Sunday when officers were called for an “active shooter” near the Ned Peppers Bar on East 5th Street in the Oregon District. Several witnesses said the shooter was a man who was armed with a rifle.
Dayton police tweeted that an active shooter situation began in the Oregon District at 1:22 am, but that officer nearby was able to ‘put an end to it quickly.
At least 16 others were taken to local hospitals with injuries.
As reported by BBC News, Miami Valley Hospital spokeswoman Terrea Little said 16 victims have been received at the hospital, but she couldn’t confirm their conditions. Kettering Health Network spokeswoman Elizabeth Long said multiple victims from a shooting had been brought to system hospitals but didn’t have details on how many.
The Ohio shooting came hours after a young man opened fire in a crowded El Paso, Texas, shopping area, leaving 20 dead and more than two dozen injured. Just days before, on July 28, a 19-year-old shot and killed three people, including two children, at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Northern California.
