Nic Pothas named interim head coach of West Indies cricket team
Former South African cricketer Nic Pothas has been handed the charge of the West Indies cricket team on an interim basis after the departure of head coach Stuart Law.
Law had earlier announced his decision to step down as coach of the Caribbean side after he was picked to be in charge of English county side Middlesex in September.
Pothas, a former fielding coach of the Sri Lankan cricket team embraced this new challenge and looked forward to having a good time with his new team when they tour Bangladesh in their upcoming international assignment.
“It is an honour to be asked to be the head coach of the West Indies Cricket team for the immediate future. The Bangladesh series will be a tough challenge which we look forward to embracing,” West Indies’ official website quoted him as saying.
Jimmy Adams, the director of West Indies cricket held that this appointment was necessary for the sake of maintaining continuity.
“Having Nic lead the team at this juncture is important for continuity,” he said, as quoted by ICC. “And we look forward to strong and positive performances from the squad under his leadership,” he added further.
Pothas had also served as the interim head coach for the Sri Lankan national team after head coach Graham Ford stepped down.
West Indies would tour Bangladesh for two Test matches, three ODIs and as many T20I. The tour begins with the first Test on December 22.
