New Details for the Neil Gaiman Sandman show
The Netflix series is based on the beloved Vertigo comic Sandman
Earlier this year, fans were treated to the news that Netflix had signed a massive financial deal with Warner Bros. Television to adapt the Neil Gaiman comic Sandman into a live-action TV series. The news arrived three years after New Line’s failed attempt to turn the graphic novel into a feature film. The series was officially picked up with an 11-episode order. Now, the fans of the series may have some more details to keep them going.
In a CBS interview Neil Gaiman talked about Sandman, which will see him in the capacity of an executive producer and writer. The Good Omens writer said the show will stay faithful to the original material but with a modern take.
“[We’re doing] it for now rather than making it a 1980s period piece,” Gaiman said. “In number one, there is a sleeping sickness that occurs because Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, is captured in 1916. In 1988 he escapes. Instead of him being a captive for about 80 years, he’s going to be a captive for 110 years, and that will change things.”
The basics, however, look to be staying true to the source. Similar to the books Morpheus will be changing the way he looks. His personality will also be reminiscent of the books.
“He’s not quite human, but he does have absolute standards and responsibilities, and tries to fulfill his moral obligations even if his standards are not human,” Gaiman explained.
Neil Gaiman was recently the showrunner on good Omens which was a co-production between Amazon Studios and BBC Studios.
