Neeraj Chopra wins first gold medal showcasing a victorious performance at the Javelin throw match at Tokyo Olympics. He has become the first Olympic medallist from athletics in the finals of the men's javelin throw match
Neeraj Chopra, the star Javelin thrower scripted a history on Saturday (August 7, 2021). He wins gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics becoming the second athlete to bring home gold after shooter Abhinav Bindra (who won gold medal at the Olympics in 2008). These are the only two Indian athletes to win a gold medal in an individual event. Chopra had fuelled country’s expectations by showcasing a mesmerising performances in the qualification round with a stunning first round throw of 86.59m. Today, he made India proud with his victory.
Neeraj Chopra’s performance was one of the best performances by an Indian in the Tokyo Olympics this year. What an impressive show, say the audience after watching him first throw of 87.03m in the finals, which was good enough to clinch the gold. However, he bettered it in the next attempt to 87.58m and that remained the best throw of the day. Neeraj Chopra won a historic athletics gold medal to become India’s second ever individual Olympic with gold medal. Indian’s took to Twitter to laud his performance.
