Nadal, Djokovic march to Round 4; curtains for Simona Halep
Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Juan Martin Del Potro and Kei Nishikori had an amazing time at Wimbledon 2018 on Saturday. These set of players easily managed to march to the fourth round beating their opponents. Meanwhile, it wasn’t a good day for top seed Simona Halep as she lost 3-6 6-4 7-5 to Hsieh Su-wei in the third round.
Rafael Nadal defeated Australian teenager Alex De Minaur 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 to win the third round with ease. He took just over two hours to get the better of his opponent. Alex De Minaur could not convert either of the two break points that came his way but he saved seven of 12, forcing the Spaniard to dig deep quite frequently.
“Positive match for me, with some tough moments at the beginning. I’m just happy to be through. Playing in front of these people is a big honour.”, said Rafael Nadal.

Kyle Edmund made a praiseworthy start against Novak Djokovic but perished to the brilliance of the 12th seed. He lost 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-4 to the Serbian and thrashed all British hopes as the 21st seed was the last British player featuring in the singles. Former world number one Djokovic will play Russian Karen Khachanov in the last 16 on Monday.
Meanwhile, women’s singles seem as unpredictable as the ongoing FIFA World Cup. It is highly tedious to predict whats in store for viewers. The latest one was when Top seed Simona Halep went out of Wimbledon in the third round after losing a hard fought three set battle against Hsieh Su-wei. As a result, Czech Republic’s seventh seed Karolina Pliskova is the only top 10 player remaining in the women’s singles.
Earlier, Juan Martin Del Potro progressed to the fourth round. The fifth seed won 6-4, 7-6(7-4), 6-3 against Benoit Paire from France. This is the fourth time the Argentine has reached the fourth round. Benoit Paire was seen arguing with the umpire quite frequently in set two and three.
Japan’s Kei Nishikori knocked out Australian 15th seed Nick Kyrgios in straight sets. Nishikori will be keen to win the next round as he has never gone beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon. The 24th seed won the first set in just 16 minutes. Nick Kyrgios showed great character and battled hard in the next set but it wasn’t going to be enough. He lost 6-1, 7-6(7-3). 6-4 to the Japanese.
