The Central Bureau of Investigation has proceeded with the arrest of four persons, including an official of the social welfare department of Bihar, in the shelter home case in Muzaffarpur. All the accused have been arrested in for their alleged connection with the sexual abuse of minor girls at a shelter home.
An official stated that they have detained Rosy Rani — assistant director in the social welfare department — in association with the sexual assault of 34 girls over a period of time in the government-funded shelter home. Along with Rani, her staff members Guddu, Vijay and Santosh have also been detained for questioning from Muzaffarpur and Sonepur of Bihar. This is the second biggest arrests after the prime accused Brajesh Thakur was taken into custody.
According to the CBI, Rani was informed about the sexual assault by the 34 victims, but she did not take any action against either on the NGO nor on Thakur. Based on the complaints filed and the investigations, the agency has booked Rani under Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act. One of the officials said, reports First Post, “The girls shared their ordeal with Rani but she didn’t take any action.”
Along with the arrest of Rani and other accused in the case, the CBI official stated that they have frozen 20 bank accounts of prime accused Brajesh Thakur.
In a latest addition, the Supreme Court on Thursday vacated a Patna High Court order restraining the media from reporting on the probe of the Muzaffarpur case. As the incident came to limelight, the CBI had arrested 10 people, including Brajesh Thakur.
