A Muslim man along with his family in Uttar Pradesh embraced Hinduism in a hope that his son’s death will be investigated properly. The man along with 12 member family filed an affidavit to the area sub-divisional magistrate saying they have changed their religion voluntarily.
The man along with 12 family members embraced Hinduism on Monday belong to Baghapat district. The man identified as Akhtar. The decision comes after being dissatisfied over police treating his son’s death as suicide instead of a murder.
Baghpat’s District Magistrate Rishirendra Kumar confirmed that the family members changed their religion as they weren’t satisfied with the police investigation into the death of Akhtar’s son a few months ago.
The converted family has also performed ‘havan’ Chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and other Hindu rituals and changed their names on Tuesday, Shaukendra Khokhar, state chief of Yuva Hindu Vahini (Bharat) quoted by NDTV as saying on Tuesday.
Akhtar was quite upset since his son Gulhasan was allegedly murdered. But, according to Akhtar, his son’s body was hung to make it look like a suicide.
‘His family pleaded with the Police to not rule out other angles, the police allegedly concluded it to be a case of suicide,’ the chief of the Hindu outfit said.
According to the report, “Akhtar had also sought help from his own community too, but they were reportedly “not very forthcoming and did not help much,” Mr Khokhar told NDTV.
Baghpat District Magistrate Kumar said that the matter is being investigated in consultation with the superintendent of police. Shailesh Kumar Pandey, a senior police officer, said they are looking into it.
