A life-saving vaccination process turned into life-threatening one, when Aastha Pashte, took her two-day-old baby to a clinic for vaccinations but three weeks later, the infant developed a mysterious fever. t was then Aastha discovered that the clinic had forgotten a 2-cm needle inside her child’s bottom.
The surgery process took two-hours to remove the foreign body at the Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital from child’s bottom. As soon as the child is discharged, the family is planning to sue the clinic that forgot the needle.

The baby was born on 17th of June 2018, who is Aastha’s first child. The family is based in Mumbai’s Chembur locality. Few days later, took the child at a local clinic for vaccination. Suddenly the infant became feverish on the 21st day after birth. According to mid-day report, Aastha said “When we took him to a private doctor, she thought it was the flu and prescribed some medicines. But when the baby didn’t show any relief, we took him to Wadia hospital, where we were shocked to learn that there was a needle inside his buttock. Suddenly we realised why he cried every time we massaged oil on his buttocks.”
The very first infection diagnosed in baby’s body was osteomyelitis which is the bone infection. But in X-rays and CT scan a foreign body was discovered. Then the parents realised that it was the vaccination needle still stuck in their child’s bottom, it was so deep that it reached the hip joint. A surgery was performed to remove the needle on July 10th at Wadia hospital. The baby is now recovering in the neo-natal intensive care unit (NICU).Such case was first hand case for the hospital.
