The light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles have been restricted on the north-bound side of the Western Express Highway for a month started from October 13. The restriction has also been imposed on small/big tempos and mini trucks.
In order to decongest traffic on the Western Express Highway, the heavy and light commercial vehicles would not run for a month. The circular was issued on October 12 by an additional commissioner of police Veeresh Prabhu under 115 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
Keeping an eye on the smooth movement and better traffic management, these vehicles (commercial vehicles) would not play between 5 pm and 9 pm for the next 30 days on the Western Express Highway. The restriction on three wheelers is not applicable in other parts of the city.
The emergency services like ambulance, fire brigade and police vehicles, government and semi-government vehicles would not come under this restrictions.
The three-wheelers would be allowed to play in the morning hours on Western Express Highway. In addition, heavy vehicles like buses and trucks have already been restricted for specified hours on all roads around the city.
Bal Malkit Singh of All India Motor Transport Congress said Times of India, “Restricting light and small commercial vehicles including small/big tempos and mini trucks may affect the distribution of goods within the city.”
He further told TOI, “Heavy commercial vehicles are restricted entry in the city and it is the light and medium commercial vehicles which distributes goods to shops, godowns and retailers. It will affect distribution to thousands of shops in the western suburbs.”
