A 32-year-old woman was raped in Mumbai’s Saki Naka area on Friday. The crime took place in the early hours of Friday at Khairani Road in Saki Naka. The accused first raped the woman and then inserted a rod in her private parts and left her in critical condition. The woman passed away during treatment in a hospital.
The gruesome incident has sent shockwaves across the nation. It has a disturbing similarity to the 2012 Nirbhaya incident of Delhi.

The police control room received a call in the early hours of September 10. An unidentified man said that a woman was lying in a pool of blood on Khairani Road. She was taken to the civic-run Rajawadi hospital. preliminary reports revealed she was raped and brutalised. Reportedly the assault took place inside a tempo parked on the roadside.
The police got hold of the CCTV footage of the incident, which confirmed the assault on the woman. Mohan Chouhan (45), the accused, was arrested within a few hours of the incident, The police arrested him under Section 376 (Punishment for rape) and 307 (Attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Shiv Sena MLC Manisha Kayande told IANS, “” She had suffered very severe internal injuries and has passed away. The victim has two minor daughters and I have appealed to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to consider compensation for them.”
