The Southwest Monsoon has reached Mumbai two days ahead of its normal date. Heavy rainfall has caused severe waterlogging in the city. It has resulted in traffic diversions and local train services are also halted in many places. India Meteorological Department (IMD) Mumbai Deputy Director-General Dr. Jayanta Sarkar told news agency ANI, “Monsoon has arrived in Mumbai today, normal arrival date is 10th June every year so it has arrived prior to the average arrival date.”
IMD has issued an Orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Navi Mumbai, and Raigad. As per IMD, these areas are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and moderate to intense rainfall at isolated places.
Due to waterlogging reported in Sion, Gandhi market, Kurla, Chunabhatti, Mankhurd, Antop hill, and King Circle areas. Traffic is diverted from these routes. Andheri Subway in Mumbai is also closed due to severe waterlogging.
Harbour line local services were suspended at 10.20 am. Due to waterlogging on tracks near Sion and Kurla stations, central line train services between CST to Thane were suspended at 10.20 am.
