Mumbaikars woke up to very heavy rainfalls today morning leading to waterlogging in almost all parts of the city. Owing to relentless rain, authorities have been asked to remain schools and colleges shut on Wednesday. As per the reports, several surrounding areas like Thane and Navi Mumbai have recorded more than 100mm of spells of rains in 24hour ending at 8.30am on Wednesday.
Due to heavy rainfalls, there are several areas such as Mumbai’s King Circle railway station and Gandhi market are badly affected. India Meteorological Department has predicted that heavy rains at isolated places in Mumbai likely to continue till September 6.
According to media reports, almost 1,500 people have been evacuated from Kranti Nagar, Kurla as Mithi river overflows.
According to reports, Thane, Palghar and Raigad are red coded. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall, more than 20 cm is expected in these areas in next 24 hours, says IMD’s Deputy Director-General K.S. Hosalikar.
Due to water-logging, all local trains are currently running late. Water at many stations has flooded the platforms and reports of leakages have also made on social media.
Two NDRF teams of Pune have been shifted to Panvel, Raigad for prepositioning in view of incessant rainfall.
According to reports, flights at Mumbai airport are delayed by 45 minutes to one hour because of Mumbai’s relentless rains.
