Mumbai Rains: Landslide in Western Express Highway, no casualties
Heavy rains pound Mumbai, Landslide on WEH, traffic affected
Mumbai woke up to the city being battered by heavy rainfall and winds. The city has been hit by the torrential deluge since last night that has waterlogged many low lying areas. It has also affected essential services like local trains and BEST.
The two highways, main roads and arterial roads in many parts of the city were flooded. This caused a major traffic block. There was a huge landslide on a hillock with tonnes of debris falling on the Western Express Highway. The Mumbai Fire Brigade said there were no casualties.
The landslide took place at Kandivali Western Express highway at Samta Nagar. The exact location is opposite Growels Mall, below Times of India office building.

The Highway leading towards the airport and the city is closed on one side and the traffic is diverted. The blocking has caused a traffic jam with many commuters stuck.

The weather department has sounded a red alert for Tuesday and Wednesday for extremely heavy rain in Mumbai. BMC has also asked offices and other establishments to remain shut. There is an alert for a high tide today at 12:47 pm, tides waves of around 4.51 meters expected today.
