Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh was on Wednesday transferred. Under flak on ‘mishandling’ the bomb scare outside Mukesh Ambani’s residence the Maharashtra government replaced him with senior IPS officer Hemant Nagrale. Param Bir Singh will now lead the Home Guards.
Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh tweeted, “Big decision of the government. Shri Hemant Nagrale will be the new Mumbai Police Commissioner. Shri Rajnish Seth will have the additional charge of the post of Director General of Police, Maharashtra.”
“Shri Sanjay Pandey will have the responsibility of Maharashtra State Security Corporation. Shri Param Bir Singh will have the responsibility of the Home Guard,”
Param Bir Singh left his office shortly after the announcement by Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
The sudden move comes days after Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Waze was arrested. He is allegedly involved in planting an explosives-laden car outside industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s house. The NIA arrested Waze late Saturday after over 10 hours of questioning. He has been remanded in NIA custody till 25 March. Waze is also part of a probe by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad into the death of businessman Mansukh Hiren. The man who owned the Mahindra Scorpio was found outside Ambani’s south Mumbai residence, Antilia.
Hiren was found dead in a creek in the Thane district on 5 March. His family pointed fingers at Sachin Vaze.
