Mumbai: Man accused of molesting Manipur researcher on moving train arrested
A 26-year-old man, accused of allegedly molesting a student from Manipur while she was commuting in a local train in Mumbai, has been arrested, said the police on Thursday.
The accused, who has been identified as Ayaz Sattar Qureshi was caught at the Kurla railway station on Wednesday. He is a resident of Mankhurd suburb, a police official told PTI.
According to a report, the accused was identified with the help of a photograph, which the victim had clicked during the incident. The picture was analysed and then confirmed from the CCTV footages of various railway stations, the official further added.
The victim, a 22-year-old researcher from Mumbai was returning in the general compartment of a local train alongside her European colleague in a local train on September 11, when the accused taking undue advantage of the crowded touched the girl inappropriately and molested her. The girl was travelling in a local train that runs between the Vashi and Govandi stations on the suburban harbour line in Mumbai.

She was reportedly returning after completing some research work in Navi Mumbai. She stated to the police that the accused touched her inappropriately taking advantage of the crowded general compartment. She also further narrated that while she and her colleague tried to catch hold of the man, the other passengers in the compartment remained silent allowing the man to flee the compartment.
The girl has written her ordeal in a social media post on Saturday following which a case had been registered against the accused under IPC section 354 (molestation), the police added.
