Mumbai: Major Fire At Dreams Mall’s Sunrise Hospital; Three Dead

A major fire broke out inside Dreams Mall in Mumbai‘s Bhandup. The mall also has a Covid-19 hospital on the third floor. The incident took place on early Friday morning. More than 70 coronavirus patients were moved to safety after the fire broke out. A total of 14 fire engines and 10 jumbo water tankers were rushed to Dreams Mall Sunrise Hospital to douse the fire.

Two casualties have been reported in fire incident. Rescue operation for 76 patients admitted to COVID care hospital is underway. In a statement, Sunrise Hospital said: “There was a fire on the first floor of Dreams Mall, Bhandup, and the smoke reached up to the Sunrise Hospital located at the top floor. All fire alarms beeped and hence all patients were safely evacuated due to the smoke to the fire refuge area. There were two dead bodies (due to Covid), which were also evacuated. There was no casualty due to fire. (sic)”

“All patients were promptly shifted to Jumbo Covid Centre (and some to other private hospitals). We are grateful to the Mumbai fire brigade and to Mumbai Police for helping us save lives. The hospital staff did a fantastic job in safely evacuating patients on wheelchairs and beds to the refuge areas and by following the fire drills.”

Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar told news agency ANI, The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained. She further added that action will be taken against those responsible.
