A leopard was spotted in the MIDC area, home to large corporate offices. The wild cat was spotted by a security guard in Andheri (East) on Sunday morning. The security guard first thought that it was a dog. But he later realised it was a leopard when it saw the animal striding into the surrounding forest.
“The wildlife rescue team, SRPF personnel, and local policemen are looking for the leopard. It has not been seen again after the security guard first sighted it,” police official Jagdish Shinde said.
The State forest department soon swung to action and have installed 10 automatic cameras and three trap cages in the area to capture the animal. The rescue teams have installed two cages, where Leopard was spotted Mulgaon Dongri around Vazir Glass warehouse that has been shut since a long time now. at Andheri.

Pugmarks were also seen on the boundary wall, said forest officials. Officials suspect the animal had been staying in the abandoned warehouse for months.
Jitendra Ramgaonkar, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Thane said, “Leopards have been sighted in populated areas of Mumbai and Thane. But in this case, there seems to be no natural connectivity for leopards to stray or walk away from their natural habitat.”
