Mumbai is being lashed by heavy rainfall since Monday. This is due to Cyclone Gulaab that has hit the east coast. As the cyclone is weakening into a depression it is moving towards the west. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rainfall in several places in Maharashtra, including Mumbai and Thane.
As per the TOI report, Shubhangi Bhute, an IMD scientist, has claimed that the cyclone Gulabwas formed on Saturday evening is likely to move westwards.
She said, “Due to this, the heavy rains coupled with strong and gusty winds are likely to be witnessed in Maharashtra. On September 27 Vidarbha and Marathwada may be impacted while on September 28 parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan will witness rain activity. Therefore, citizens are requested to take precautions.”
As per the reports, the IMD has issued a red alert for districts like Palghar, Raigad, and Thane. An Orange alert has been issued to Mumbai. It will receive thunderstorms with lightning, gusty wind and very heavy rainfall. The island city has crossed the 3000 mm mark once again.
