Mumbai: Fire at Iconic Crawford Market, no casualties reported

A major fire broke out at Mumbai‘s iconic Crawford market home to numerous shops selling household goods. The incident took place around 6:15 pm and was first reported by the Mumbai Fire Brigade. The fire broke out at the ground floor of the market and so far no injuries have been reported in the incident. The fire department has put the threat level at LO.

Sources said that 6 fire tenders and 5 water tankers from the nearby Indira Docks Mandvi and Byculla fire stations have been rushed to the spot.

As reported by Mumbai Mirror, the Chief Fire Officer Prabhat Rahangdale said the blaze is confined to the lofts of two or three shops. Breaking of shutters of adjacent galas is in progress to check the spread of fire.

There has been no casualty as Crawford Market was not crowded at the time of the blaze, due to the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in place.
