Mumbai: Decomposed body of IIT Bombay student found in Jogeshwari hotel
The Amboli Police on Monday has recovered the decomposed body of two Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) students in Jogeshwari hotel. The IIT’ian deceased has been been identified as Jaideep Swain, who was pursuing his Master in Technology in IIT Bombay, Powai.
According to the report, he was suffering from depression, the tablets he used to take was found next to his body. Jaideep Swain joined the IIT last year July. Swain’s father works as a porter in the Food Corporation of India and his sister is in Chennai.
According to the police, Swain checked in to the hotel in Jogeshwari on August 31. He last contacted with the hotel staff on September 1. The Amboli Police received call at 11:30 am on Monday, a Police officer said, “On September 3, when a staff member was on the seventh floor of the hotel, he could smell an unusual odour from Swain’s room. He then informed his superiors and the police were called.”
An officer told Mid-day, “There were no external injuries on his body. A number of tablets that are taken for depression were found next to it. It appears he died due to an overdose, but the actual cause will be known only after we get the post-mortem report.”
After knocking the door repeatedly, Swain did not open the door, then police forced their way in and found Swain’s decomposed body on the bed in a decomposed condition. Anti-depressant tablets were found near the body and a medical report has been ordered to determine if Swain had overdosed. No suicide letter has been found.
“Till now, we have not found any foul play in the death. We are investigating the case further and also trying to find out why the boy had come to the hotel,” said the police officer.
