Mumbai on Thursday recorded the highest-ever one-day spike of 2,877 new coronavirus cases. To curb the rising tide of coronavirus cases the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has passed some new laws. They have made it compulsory for people to carry a COVID-19 negative report while entering a mall. The new rule will come into effect on March 22.
As reported by sources to India Today, If people are not carrying a negative report. The BMC says they will be tested (rapid antigen) at the entrance. The BMC has made it mandatory for all the malls to have a swab collection facility to take samples for coronavirus testing. A team will be deployed at the entrance of each mall for this purpose. Apart from malls, the civic authorities will be conducting rapid antigen tests at other crowded places of the city too.
On Thursday, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar had said that she is considering imposing a night curfew in the city. She added that they are also thinking of shifting the crowded markets to new sites.
“I think imposing a night curfew is necessary right now. We are also considering shifting the crowded markets to new sites,” said Pednekar told news agency ANI.
She added that Mumbaikars need to work together and follow the rules of compulsory wearing a mask. Also to maintain a safe distance to prevent a lockdown in the city.
Mumbai has recorded 2,877 new coronavirus cases yesterday. The COVID-19 tally in Mumbai now stands at 3,52,835.
