Mumbai: 21-year-old girl jumps off Borivali high-rise
In what comes across as a case of accidental death, a 21-year-old girl, residing in a rented apartment at Borivali East, was found dead in the building premises during the early hours of August 6. Suspicions arose that she might have committed suicide by jumping from the kitchen window of the 16th floor flat yet no suicide note was retrieved from the crime scene.
The Kasturba Marg police are yet to find out details about the incident. The police said that the deceased Shikha Vithal Shethy resided in the Ekta Bhoomi Park apartment along with her parents and elder brother. While the probability exists that she jumped from the window, the angle also exists that she fell to her death while everyone was asleep. When her family members woke up around 4 am, they couldn’t find her in the flat.
The incognizant parents found the main door and the windows of the hall to be shut but they found the kitchen window open. That is when they sensed something suspicious following which they went down and found her lying in a pool of blood. A team from the Kasturba Marg police station was informed and they immediately rushed to the spot. The police on interrogation, found out that Shethy was a final year Home Science student at a Matunga-based college.
Shethy was first rushed to Shatabdi Hospital, where she was declared dead. The body was then shifted to Bhagwati Hospital where a post-mortem was conducted and later was handed over to her parents. Mid-day reported an officer from Kasturba Marg police station as saying, “An accidental death report has been registered in the case. We have searched the house as well as her belongings, but haven’t got any clue about the incident. Further investigation into the matter is on.”
