MTV VMAs 2021: BTS Wins Best K-Pop Award For Butter
The 2021 MTV Video Music Awards popularly known as the VMAs premiered on Sunday, September 12. MTV Video Music Awards 2021 was held at Barclays Center, New York City in front of a live audience. BTS leader Namjoon aka RM was celebrating his birthday on the same day. The day turned memorable for the K-pop group as they bagged three awards at the glittering award night.
BTS won the title of Song of Summer for their hit single ‘Butter’, Group of the Year, and K-pop Music Video for the Year. This is the second time ‘Butter’ has been announced as the Summer Song. On September 8, Billboard announced their Song of Summer chart for 2021. ‘Butter’ was at number #1.
After singing a snippet of “Butter,” the South Korean septet delivered their acceptance speech via video calling.
Showering love on ARMY their fan base they said, “Thanks for this award. Sorry, we couldn’t be there, but hopefully next time we will. We’ve been so blessed and grateful for all of the love we received this year. Shoutout to ARMY! You’re the best people in the world. We’ll keep bringing great music for all of you guys. Love you all!”
The Song Of Summer is a social media voted category. The votes from fans determine the “Song of Summer”.
The first-ever award in this category was given out in 2013. Boy band, One Direction won it for ‘Best Song Ever. In the year 2020, Blackpink won it for‘How You Like That’ This year it is BTS’ for Butter.
