Former Indian captain and wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni recently claimed the second place in the list of the cricketers who have represented India the most number of times in international cricket.
Dhoni played his 505th international match for India when they took on Pakistan in the Super Four match at the Asia Cup on Sunday. With this match, Dhoni surpassed the ‘Wall’ Rahul Dravid who had played 504 matches for India-which is only second to the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who represented the country in a total of the 664 international matches.
Former Indian captains Mohammad Azharuddin and Sourav Ganguly are the only ones to have had won less caps than Dravid. While Azharuddin played 433 matches, Ganguly represented India in a total of 421 games.
Current Indian skipper Virat Kohli has won a total of 344 international caps across formats, so far.
A veteran of 90 Test matches, Dhoni stepped down from the longest format of the game in 2014 and continues to feature in ODIs and T20Is. He has played 322 ODI and 93 T20Is so far.
A part of India’s title defense at this year’s Asia Cup, the hard-hitting wicket-keeper batsman stands just 95 runs short of achieving the 10,000 runs in ODI cricket.
With their crushing nine-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan, India have already secured for themselves in the final, which is to be played on Sunday.
