Madhya Pradesh: Dalit woman refuses to withdraw complaint of sexual abuse, killed
A 23-year old Dalit student in the Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh died on Monday after she was attacked by a man who was allegedly forcing her to withdraw a complaint of sexual harassment against him.
The incident occurred when the victim was on her way towards the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Government Girls College. The assailant identified as the 38-year old Anil Mishra got down from his bike, caught the victim by her hair and dragged her to the roadside.
Reports from PTI suggest that Mishra, then allegedly shoved the woman to the ground and used a stone lying nearby to smash her head, according to Kotwali police station in-charge Arvind Jain.
Following the incident, people nearby rushed to the woman’s aid but she died while being taken to the hospital, as a result of severe injuries which led her to bleed profusely.
KK Verma, a sub-divisional police officer said that Mishra, who has been already been arrested, prima facie, performed the crime as a result of the victim’s refusal to pull out of a case of sexual harassment against him.
Verma also added that both the victim and the accused were residents of the Seoni district and said that further investigation into this case in already been carried out.
