The Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh are weeks away and the political parties are gearing up for the preparations. Taking a leap forward, Congress declared its fifth list of 16 candidates and included former Union minister Sartaj Singh — who moved to the party from the BJP earlier on Thursday.
The Opposition party announced Singh as its candidate from Hoshangabad for the Assembly elections. The decision was taken minutes after Singh joined Congress, leaving the BJP after his name was not cited in the third list of the party.
According to the reports, Singh — MLA from Seoni-Malwa — will contest on the Hoshangabad seat from Congress against Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker and BJP candidate Sitasharan Sharma.
The Congress party is yet to announce candidates for five seats which include — Budhni (Sehore district), Manpur (Dhar), Indore-2, Indore-5 and Jatara (Tikamgarh). So far the announcement was made for 225 seats in the state, which also include Vinay Saxena from Jabalpur North.
The central party is yet to announce the candidate from Budhni to take on Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and it is looking for a heavy-weight candidate. It is to be known that Sartaj Singh is the third BJP leader who switched to Congress after Sanjay Sharma and Padma Shukla, just before the Assembly elections.
The Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh will take place on November 28 and the results will be announced on December 11, along with four other states.
