Madhya Pradesh: 14-year-old boy rapes minor girl, sentenced after 7-hour of trial
Incidents of rape cases in India have increased and minors are the most affected. In a recent change of wave, the juvenile court convicted and sentenced the culprit within seven hours to a 14-year-old boy charging of raping a minor girl. The verdict was announced by Juvenile Justice Board Judge Tripti Pande who awarded the culprit two years’ imprisonment.
Detailing the minutes of the case, government advocate Deependra Malu said that this is perhaps the quickest decision by the court, which would motivate other courts to pronounce such judgements. Malu said, as reported by Mid-Day, “The case diary was submitted in the court at 10.45 am yesterday and the judgement, after trial, was pronounced around 6 pm.”
He further added, “This is probably for the first time, after the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act came into effect in 2012, that a judgement in a rape case of a minor has been given in such a short duration. The tendency of sexual offences against children is rising at a fast pace in society. To correct such a perverted psychological condition, this boy needs to be sent to two years’ imprisonment.”
The police said that the entire process — from registration of the case to pronouncement of judgement — was completed in just five days, adds the daily. As per to police, the case took place on August 15, when the girl was playing with other children at the residence of the accused at Ghatiya village in the district. Taking advantage of the situation the boy raped her. Later, the victim disclosed the incident to her parents who filed a complaint at the Ghatiya police station. Awarding the sentence, the court ordered to send the culprit to a remand home in Madhya Pradesh’s Seoni district.
