1. Masjid Al Haram – Mecca (Saudi Arabia)
It has been many centuries when the Prophet Ibrahim constructed the smaller version of Masjid Al Haram along with his son Ismael. It is known as the Great Mosque of Mecca, which surrounds the holiest site Kaaba in the city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The Masjid was built by Prophet Muhammed in 622 AD. The mosque is located in Medinah, Saudi Arabia. Notably, it is the third’s mosque that was built in the history of Islam. The Prophet’s Mosque is considered to be the second holiest site for Muslims after Masjid-al-Haram. The masjid has witnessed expansion on many times over the period of time. The largest expansion operation was conducted by the Kingdom in 1994.

3. Faisal Mosque – Islamabad (Pakistan)
Faisal Mosque is located in Pakistan’s Islamabad. It features a contemporary design which consists of eight sides of the concrete shell and is inspired by a Bedouin tent. The Masjid attracts thousands of tourists and is referred to as a contemporary and influential feature of Islamic architecture.
The construction of Faisal Faroque Mashid was started in the year 1976 after then Saudi King Faisal granted $120 million. The Masjid is named after him. According to reports, the International competition was held in 1969 and in which architects from 17 countries submitted 53 proposals for the mosque. In the final, proposal of a Turkish architect named Vedat Dalokay was selected.
The design was conceptualized as the national mosque of the country and a symbol of the hopes and aspirations of Pakistan. It was dedicated to the memory of King Faisal, who bore the cost of the project as a gift to the Pakistani people.
It has a covered area of 54,000 square feet. The Faisal Masjid can host 10,000 worshipers in the main prayer hall, 24,000 in porticoes, 40,000 in courtyard and 200,000 in its adjoining grounds.
Talking about the significance Faisal Mosque, the mosque does not have any dome but it has been shaped like a Bedouin tent, surrounded by four 260 feet (79 m) tall minarets. The walls are adorned with golden calligraphy, with large chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. The ceiling itself is a piece of art, designed with sharp lines and grooves. The mausoleum of General Zia Ul-Haq is located adjacent to the mosque.

4. Sheikh Zayed Mosque Abu Dhabi (Dubai)
The Sheikh Zayed Mosque is located in Dubai’s capital, Abu Dhabi. It is the second largest Majids in the United Arab Emirates, which can accommodate more than 40,000 worshipers. It has been designed by a Syrian architect named Yousef Abdelky. The mosque was constructed in between the year 1996 and 2007. The project was launched by the late president of the UAE and ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan.
According to reports, Architect from several countries such as British, Italian have contributed to the designing part of this masjid. Over 3,000 workers and 38 companies had taken part in the mosques’ decades-old construction project.
Talking about the significance of Sheikh Zayed’s Mosque, the vision of the Sheikh Zayed was to incorporate architectural styles from different Muslim civilizations and celebrate cultural diversity. The hollows of the domes are etched with verses from the Qur’an and painted with gold leaves in Naskh lettering.
The Mosque has seven imported chandeliers from the company Faustig in Munich. The largest chandelier is the second largest known chandelier inside a mosque, the third largest in the world.

5. Jama Masjid – Delhi (India)
Delhi’s Jama Masjid is one of the biggest mosques in India. It was commissioned by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan when he moved his captial from Agra to Delhi. The construction work of Jama Masjid was started in 1644 and its architect was Ustad Khalil. With more than 5,000 artisans, the construction of Masjid-i Jahān-Numā was completed in 1656.
The inaugural prayer was performed by a cleric named Sayed Abdul Ghafoor Shah Bukhari, on whom Shah Jahan bequeathed the title Shahi Imam. Currently, the masjid is being managed by the Delhi Waqf Board and the Jama Masjid Committee under the direction of the present Shahi Imam.
Talking about the significance of Delhi’s Jama Masjid, the mosque faces west toward Makkah and houses several relics of Islamic religious significance, including an age-old transcript of the Qur’an.
