Prior to its schedule, the monsoon has covered the entire country 15 days ago. The monsoon has reached its last outpost in Sriganganagar in western Rajasthan, which was earlier expected to reach by July 15, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday.
The IMD said, “Southwest monsoon has further advanced into the remaining parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan and north Arabian Sea. The monsoon has covered the entire country today, June 29, 2018.” Stating that it is not the first time that monsoon arrived early, Chief Forecaster at the IMD in Pune D.S. Pai said previously too monsoon arrived by June 26 in 2015 and even earlier by June 16 in 2013, reports The Hindu.

Though the monsoon reached early, but it does not link with the speed and quantum of rainfall. The monsoon reached early in 2013 and 6 percent excess rain than normal was recored, but in 2015 there was a 14 percent deficit. This year, the monsoon deficiency had declined to 4 percent from 10 percent untill Friday.
According to the expert, normally by July 1, monsoon traverses the northern-most portions and then reaches western Rajasthan after a fortnight. But, this time pressure system across the northern portion of the Bay of Bengal and Western Disturbance has propelled the rains to arrive early, added Pai.
With monsoon reaching Kerala on May 29, three days ahead of schedule, that does not guarantee that the relief from soaring-heat will be long lived. However, the expert expects a good monsoon this year.
