Mohd Mushtaque Ahmad elected new Hockey India president
Mohd Mushtaque Ahmad, former Secretary General of Hockey India (HI) has been elected as the new president of the hockey body following the conclusion of the eighth Hockey India Congress and Elections in New Delhi on Monday.
Ahmad was elected unopposed and will replace the outgoing President Rajinder Singh, said a media release.
Meanwhile, Gyanendro Ningombam of Manipur has been appointed as the senior vice-president, while Asima Ali of Jammu & Kashmir and Bhola Nath Singh of Jharkhand will serve as the vice-presidents.
Rajinder Singh, the hockey president of Jammu and Kashmir has been elected as the new secretary. Singh had earlier replaced Mariamma Koshy – after he retired – as his state’s hockey federation president. Tapan Kumar Das of Assam was, however, re-elected as the treasurer for the second term.

Former India women’s hockey team skipper Asunta Lakra along with Firoz Ansari (Chhattisgarh) has been made the joint secretary.
Arti Singh (Rajasthan), M Renuka (Tamil Nadu) and SVS Subramanya Gupta (Tamil Nadu) was also elected as the unopposed members of the Executive Members of HI, while RP Singh and Joydeep Kaur, who were nominated by the Executive Board, were re-appointed as the Athlete Representatives.
