Mohammed Zahur Khayyam — who is known for composing music for superhit movies such as Kabhie Kabhie and Umrao Jaan — has passed away on Monday night. According to reports, veteran music composer Mohammed Zahur Khayyam was admitted to Mumbai’s Sujay Hospital a few days ago due to an infection in his lungs. Mohammed Zahur Khayyam breathed his last at the same hospital, he was 92-year old.
The news of Mohammed Zahur Khayyam’s demise was confirmed by none other than Talat Aziz, a ghazal singer. He told The Indian Express that Zahur Khayyam breathed his last at 9:30 pm. Adding on he said that he fought bravely for more than 21 days.
The Veteran music composer was awarded the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and Padma Bhushan. He started his career in music from Ludhiana when he was merely 17-years old. After his first big break with Umrao Jaan, the composer made a permanent place for himself in the industry and his iconic tunes continue to be remembered and loved even today. His awards also include the likes of a National Award apart from other tributes for his various works.
Besides movies, the composer has also been equally instrumental in producing non-film songs – Paaon Padun Tore Shyam, Ghazab Kiya Tere Vaade Pe Aitbaar Kiya among others.
