Mohammad Shami given partial allowance by BCCI to play for Bengal
Senior India pacer Mohammad Shami has been given a green signal by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to participate in Bengal’s Ranji Trophy match against Kerala which begins on Sunday, November 20.
Shami’s participation in the match, especially in the bowling department has been limited keeping in mind the gruelling Test series against Australia that is set to begin on December 6. Updates on his fitness would be communicated on a daily basis to Team India physio Patrick Farhat. Shami was rested for the remainder of the series after he played the first two ODIs against the West Indies.
The right-arm fast bowler who is one of India’s best bets with the ball has been the country’s highest-wicket taker this year in Tests with 33 scalps.
Commenting on his limited availability, Bengal skipper Manoj Tiwary said that he UP-born pacer wouldn’t be required for more than 15 overs per innings.
Bengal are yet to win a match in this season of the Ranji Trophy after they played out draws against Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh respectively. Tiwary scored a double hundred in their last match
The Indian team landed in Australia on Friday where they square off in a four-match Test series against the hosts. The series would start with a three-match T20I affair and would also compete in as many ODIs.
