Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, his secretary Mujeeb Khan and (Khan’s friend) Sudheesh Avikkal, have been booked for cheating an Aurangabad-based travel agent of almost Rs 21 lakh. A case was registered against them under Sections 420 (cheating), 406 (Criminal breach of trust) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code at City Chowk police station in Aurangabad on Wednesday for cheating the city-based Danish Tours and Travel agency.
Azharuddin, however, dismissed the allegation as “baseless”, and said he will take legal action against the complainant, Mohammed Shahab of Danish Tour and Travel agency.
According to the complainant Shahab Y. Mohammed proprietor of Danish Tours & Travels, between November 9 and 12, 2019, Avikkal booked several international airline tickets and Azharuddin”s personal secretary Mujeeb Khan promised to pay the ticket charges. He said since no payment was made, he was compelled to lodge the police complaint.
The former Indian cricket captain and former MP Mohammad Azharuddin has denied allegations of cheating leveled by a travel agency in Maharashtra and threatened to file a defamation suit of Rs 100 crore.
Azharuddin said in a video message on Twitter, “Those who filed the FIR have done it only to be in the limelight. There is no truth in it. The allegations are baseless.”
Azharuddin has added that he will seek advice from his lawyer and will file an Rs.100 crore defamation case against him.
