Mohamed Salah signs a new long term contract with Liverpool
Mohamed Salah has signed a long term contract with Liverpool after a praiseworthy season at the Anfield. The 26 year old Egyptian was named as PFA Player of the Year as well as Football Writer’s Player of the Year. He also won the golden boot after netting 32 goals in the English Premier League. He scored 44 goals in 52 appearances since he moved to Liverpool from AS Roma.
Mohamed Salah was the key going into the elusive final against Real Madrid in UEFA Champions League finals. But the climax wasn’t a fitting one for the Egyptian as he was taken off due to a shoulder injury and Liverpool succumbed to a high pressure game. The injury added miseries for Salah as he wasn’t fit enough to play Egypt’s FIFA World cup opening game against Uruguay. He scored in his comeback match as well as the match to follow but Egypt thrashed out of the big tournament without getting a point in the group stage.
Liverpool got rid of all rumors surrounding Mohamed Salah’s exit from Liverpool. Though they haven’t revealed the duration of the new contract but confirmed that the Egyptian will stay at Anfield.

“I think this news can be seen for what it is – rewarding a person who performed and contributed greatly for the team and the club last season. It demonstrates two things very clearly – his belief in Liverpool and our belief in him. We want world-class talent to see they have a home at Anfield, where they can fulfill all their professional dreams and ambitions. We are working hard together to achieve this.”, said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
He added,”When someone like Mo Salah commits and says this place is my home now, it speaks very loudly I think. Equally, our commitment to him says we see his value and want him to grow even more and get even better within our environment. The key thing to remember is the best thing about Mo is that he never sees himself as being more important than the team or anyone else within it. He recognises his teammates and this club helped him achieve individual success last season. He sees the individual awards come because he is part of something bigger that is special. Mo reflects where we are as a team, I think. Last season was special with many special moments – but we want more.We want to be more successful and achieve more together. As the supporters sang so loudly, ‘we’re never gonna stop’.”
Liverpool will play their first match of the season against West Ham at home on 11th August.
