‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ lands in trouble, MLA seeks change in film title
Maharastra Congress MLA Amin Patel has sought a change in Alia Bhatt's 'Gangubai Kathiawadi.' Here's why!
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming movie ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ had landed into legal trouble as on Monday, the Maharashtra Congress MLA Amin Patel has demanded a change in the film’s title claiming that it defames the name of Kathiawad city.
Patel who represents the Mumba Devi constituency in South Mumbai spoke in the state Assembly and said that the Kamathipura area has undergone changes. He said that it is no more the same as it was in the 1950s as women are currently excelling in different professions.

The MLA, whose party is an ally of the Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government said, “The film’s title also maligns the name of Kathiawad city. The name of the film should be changed.” Further, he urged the state government to look into the matter.
Coming back to the film, it is based on a chapter of Hussain Zaidi’s book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ about Gangubai Kothewali.
The teaser of the film was released a few days back and the netizens lauded Alia Bhatt for her terrific performance. Many B-Town celebs including Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, and others also appreciated her.
‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is slated to release in the theatres countrywide on July 30, this year. SLB is co-producing the film with producer Jayantilal Gada’s Pen India Limited.
