On Monaday, DMK President MK Stalin has announced that the party will donate Rs 1 crore towards rehabilitation and relief work for Gaja Cyclone.
Cyclone Gaja had hit the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu on Friday and wreaked havoc in the state, uprooting or crushing everything that came in its way.
The devastating cyclone claimed 45 lives. On Saturday, Tamil Nadu state Chief Minister- Edappadi K Palaniswami said to reporters in Salem, that 20 men, 11 women, and two children died due to the cyclone that crossed the Tamil Nadu coast between Nagapattinam and Vedaranyam districts between 12:30 am and 2:30 am on Friday.
Reportedly, the cyclone has caused major destruction in Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Cuddalore, Pudukkottai and Ramanathapuram districts of the southern state. Expressing his concern about the havoc that Cyclone Gaja had caused, PM Narendra Modi assured that all possible help from the centre will be provided towards the people of Tamil Nadu.
The power supply was disrupted, as the cyclone uprooted several trees, electricity poles and transformers in the region, in the region. Because of this disruption, the district administration has announced that schools will remain shut on November 19. It is to be noted that the exams which were scheduled for Monday by the Anna University and its affiliated colleges have been postponed to December 15.
