Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible Sequels Get Delayed Amid Coronavirus Outbreak
‘Mission: Impossible 7’ and ‘Mission: Impossible 8’ Release Dates Postponed to 2021
Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise was all set to be back with sequels to the highly successful franchise, Mission Impossible. The much-awaited sequels are now getting delayed due to the on-going global catastrophe the COVID-19 pandemic that has gripped the world. Paramount has pushed the release of the Mission Impossible films.
As per Variety reports, Mission: Impossible 7 has been moved by four months to a new theatrical release date of November 19, 2021 with Mission: Impossible 8 pushed back three months to November 4, 2022. Mission: Impossible 7 will now open against the Warner Bros. drama King Richard The movie stars Will Smith as the father of Venus and Serena Williams.
As reported by Daily Mail, Tom Cruise was scheduled to shoot for the film seventh film in Italy. The franchise’s star had just arrived in Venice, Italy for filming on February 20. But Paramount had halted production of the three-week shoot for Venice due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The upcoming sequels of the Mission Impossible films will be helmed by director Christopher McQuarrie. Christopher had also helmed Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation and Fallout.
The Mission Impossible film franchise with Tom began in 1996; it was inspired after the Mission: Impossible TV series aired in 1966 until 1973. Tom’s first film as Ethan Hunt in the franchise was Mission: Impossible, released in 1996. He starred in the sequels that followed: Mission: Impossible 2 (2000), Mission: Impossible III (2006), Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011), Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) and Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018).
