While there is a plethora of new content to be watched during the coronavirus imposed quarantine, there are two web series almost everyone has checked out by now. Mirzapur and Sacred Games both offer fresh concepts that have won them a loyal set of audience.
Both the series have their roots seeped in mafia and crime but they are wildly different in approach. Mirzapur takes a more rustic approach while telling the story of mafia wars, contention and wrongdoings. However, Sacred Games has a more stylized way of telling the story of Mumbai cop Sartaj Singh who gets calls from a criminal Ganesh Gaitonde to save his city in 25 days.
The cast of both Mirzapur and Sacred Games does an excellent job. Mirzapur is brought to life by the performances of Ali Fazal, Vikrant Massey, Pankaj Tripathi and Divyendu Sharma. On the other hand, Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui leave no stone unturned to deliver a magical performance in Sacred Games.
Mirzapur airs on Amazon Prime Video in India. The series was shot in Mirzapur as well as parts of Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Ghazipur, Lucknow and Gorakhpur. Mirzapur Season 2 is slated to arrive in 2020. It was produced by Excel Entertainment. The first season of Mirzapur consists of 9 episodes.
Sacred Games is a Netflix original show that is based on Vikram Chandra’s 2006 novel of the same name. Sacred Games is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap. It was produced under their banner, Phantom Films. Sacred Games has a total of 16 episodes spread across two seasons.
